The Tides Inn (Woolacombe)

In the centre of Woolacombe, we can find the Tides Inn. The food quality here is second to none but make sure you reserve a table to avoid disappointment.

Combe Martin

Following a drive along the coast, we have Combe Martin which has a small but secluded bay and a handful of nice shops, cafes and bars. If the conditions are right it is the perfect place for Paddle Boarding and Kayaking. There is ample parking in Combe Martin and there are some spectacular views from the water.

Views of the local area

There are too many attractions and ‘places to visit’ to list.

Depending on the conditions, Paddle Boarding or Surfing are great.  If surfing please keep within the boundaries of the lifeguards.

There are miles of coastal walks to follow with amazing views and a vast amount of Wildlife to see.  Dolphins and Porpoises can sometimes be seen in the waters off Woolacombe and Morthoe.  There is also small colony of Seals that can usually be seen on a Coastal walk not to mention the variety of birds in the area.

Cycling along the Tarka Trail is fantastic and there are some good cycle hire places around.  Cycling to Instow and stopping for a Pastie or whatever refreshment you choose is very well recommended.

There are some nice shops, cafe’s, bars and restaurants in Braunton.  Also in Braunton is the nearest Supermarket (Tesco) and the Saltrock outlet is worth a look too.

If you are into collecting SeaGlass, then the local beaches are for you. There are plenty of whites and green pieces but also you can find, blues, pinks, ambers and many other varieties.

If you are the active type, then every Saturday morning there is the Woolacombe Dunes Parkrun. A 5k run/walk starting at 9am every Saturday morning. There are Marshalls along the route to guide you and you will get your time at the end (but you need to pre-register and take along your barcode). Be aware though, this is not for the faint hearted. It contains the famous ‘Dune of Doom’ and a ‘Slope of Hope’.

Croyde is always worth a visit.  There is an excellent Pastie shop and a fantastic Ice-Cream shop as well as other shops, cafe’s and pubs.  Breakfast at the Blue Groove is a must and there is a craft market there most weeks but check on the dates of your visit as to whether it is on. There are some nice walks from Croyde, especially down to Baggy Point which starts from the National Trust car park (which also has 2 EV chargers)

Saunton sands are vast.  So vast, in fact,  that military planes (Hercules) have landed and taken off from there. This is where you will often see the Kite Boarders.

We have highlighted a couple of places for for Food and Drinks but there are more…  many more!

Barricane Beach

A short walk from Quarryside leads to Barricane Beach.  This beach is perfect for just relaxing on the beach or maybe if you fancy a dip in the water.  In Calm conditions, you can paddle board from here but beware of the rocks.  When the tide is low there are plenty of rock pools to explore.  Once recommendation here is Sri-Lankan Curry on the beach from the Seasonal Cabin that is lowered by crane each season.
